I’m interested in the way communication informs social interactions and identity. Communication can occur through combinations of 26 letters, interplay of design elements, or even the contrast of colors. As a storyteller, it is my job to arrange those elements to form connections and shared experiences. As a researcher, it is my job to figure out why and how those elements work the way they do – independently and collectively. What makes good communication work and bad communication fail? How can we tell stories that connect people more effectively?
Some of my current areas of interest are creative nonfiction, graphic design, education, gender, digital media, and cultural research. While I used to look at communication and storytelling as only words on a page, I have come to know that there are many ways to experience human connection through stories.
